Workout photoWhether you are a seasoned bodybuilder or an exercise novice, everyone needs a little inspiration to keep working out from time to time. So how do you keep your workout motivation? Take a look at these five tips to help your workout routine.

Make the Time

Any workout expert will tell you that exercise does not just happen. You need to plan your workouts. Consider your schedule and make the time for exercise. You must also set realistic expectations that fit your life. For example, if you work 60-80 hours a week, you are not likely to be able to do six two-hour workouts each week. But you may be able to schedule a quick 20-minute weight routine during your lunch hour. Finally, consider your body clock. If you usually struggle to get out of bed every morning, it is not likely that you will suddenly want to wake up to go for a run. You might do better with a workout in the afternoon or evening.

Have Fun

Working out does not have to be a chore. If you find a type of exercise that you love, you’re more likely to do it. Talk to your friends or watch online videos to find something that inspires you and try it out. Create a motivating playlist that you only listen to when you’re working out. Also, take your routine outdoors when the weather is nice to soak up some sunshine. Whatever you do, find a way to add variety to your routine to keep you from getting bored.

Create Accountability

Accountability is huge. Find a friend with similar goals and schedule a workout together. Encourage each other to meet your goals and workout together even when you do not want to. When you are really struggling, call in the pros. Hire a trainer if necessary to help you get back on track if you have fallen out of the routine.

Celebrate Success

Be sure to note your starting point when you set goals so that you know how much you have achieved. Indulge in a mani/pedi or get tickets to a soccer game when you meet one of your goals. If your progress is slow, be patient with yourself and celebrate that you have been consistent with your exercise routine.

Be Thankful

Perhaps the most important exercise motivation is your attitude. Breathe a sigh of thanks that you can exercise and that you are working toward your goals. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body, so stay positive no matter what. Focus on a positive attitude toward your goals and your motivation will follow. If you are constantly telling yourself that working out is a chore, you are not going to stay motivated to do it. But if you tell yourself that you are grateful that you are healthy enough to exercise, you are more likely to actually do it.

If you need a little help with workout motivation, consider these five tips to help you get back on track. Everyone needs a little help from time to time; don’t be afraid to reach out for help. If you schedule your workouts, have fun, stay accountable, celebrate your successes and be thankful, then you are more likely to keep your workout motivation.
